“Submissive Inhale” examines limerence as a complex psychological and emotional condition characterised by obsessive attachment and heightened sensitivity to mutual recognition. Within this state, the boundaries between self and other become increasingly indistinct, generating cyclical shifts between anticipation, euphoria, anxiety, and despair. Emotional projection and embodied sensation begin to converge, complicating the distinction between what is experienced and what is imagined.

Situated at the intersection of intimacy and uncertainty, the performance approaches the subject as an ambiguous embodiment of this condition, dissolving emotional and physical boundaries and posing the question: what does it mean to inhale another’s skin?

Andris Freibergs is a Latvian artist who explores the complexities of sexuality through bodily, visual, and textual forms, employing experimental methods of inquiry. The intricacies of lust serve as a primary point of departure in tracing possible answers within aesthetic, ethical, and existential uncertainties. His work is driven by an interest in the fluid boundaries between performance and installation; sexual fantasies and ‘reality’. Among his recent works are the ongoing project “Slutty Absurdity” (2026) and the performance “Lust in the Question”, presented at the Riga Performance Festival Starptelpa (2025).

Mersedes Margoit’s participation in the project is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia and Culture Moves Europe.
