The City That Never Existed vol. 2

The City That Never Existed vol. 2 is a film-research based on archival footage by Kyivan Oleg Diachenko that captures the capital city of Ukraine in the first years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Returning to his hometown after long work trips to Severodvinsk [Russia] Oleg recorded not only the fleeting everyday life of his family, but also the landscape of Kyiv, the seriality of its inhabitants' lives and the melancholic beauty of its nature.
In the context of today's war between Russia and Ukraine, the reality depicted in the diary tapes seems delusional. The phenomenon of the seamless, almost natural coexistence of the Soviet and authentically Kyiv worlds creates a dissonance and provokes reflection on the invisible border that was supposed to separate these two worlds.
